The bitumen received in barrels is heated and a block of broken bitumen of 60 mm cubes can be melt cooker, coarse aggregate, crushed stone screenings and limestone dust shall be fed in successive until the entire charge is thoroughly incorporated. After all the aggregate has been incorporated materials shall be mixed thoroughly and continuously heated for a period of not less than 2 hour temperature of 175 to 200 deg C. At no stage the temperature shall exceed 205 degree C.

FINISH

Bitumen mastic shall be generally be laid in bays in one coat. It shall be spread to the specified thickness means of suitable hand tools to ensure accuracy. Uniform and level surface can be obtained by levelling a heavy wooden float. If blowing occurs during laying, the bubbles should be punctured and area after should be made good while mastic is still hot. The edges of each bay shall be made vertical accommodating next bay. This procedure should be adopted at junctions between floor finish.
